Address Placement for Flats change today..

Published by Alicia Weiler under Mailing Services

As of yesterday, all Bulk Flat-sized mail must be addressed on the "top half" of the mailpiece. This is optional for First Class Retail Flats.

How do you determine which side is the top?Poster 182

When using and envelope or polywrapped mailpiece, the top can be either of the short edges. In order to comply, in most cases, the address can be moved to the left or right to fit on the top half of the mailpiece. The address orientation does not need to change.

For newsletters or catalogs, the top is the upper edge when the bound edge or final fold is vertical and on the right side of the mailpiece. Many newsletters or catalogs currently have the mail panel located at the bottom of the mailpiece and can easily be redesigned to be located at the top. It is very important to remember, as you look at the mailpiece, the bound edge must be to the right. It is acceptable for the text of the newsletter to be upside down as long as the address is right-side up on the top side of the mailpiece.
